Sonic the Hedgehog (movie)

This was my favorite scene in the trailer for three reasons:

1) it's just adorable in general I mean just…it's adorable.

2) the "that is very gross!" exclamation from Sonic reminds me of how me and my family talk about our cats when our cats are being adorable. "(insert cat name here) is being too cute. this is absolutely disgusting."

3) Sonic mentions the dog being "Tom's best friend who he won't shut up about" and that tells us a really important thing about Tom, Sonic's co-star for this movie, as a character.

It tells us that the really normal and average seeming dude who spends the vast majority of both of the trailers we've seen so far just kinda lamenting how quickly his really normal and average seeming life is spiraling into weird shenanigans involving babysitting a hyperactive blue alien and trying to hide said blue alien from Jim Carrey…also might just be the sort of embarrassing pet parent who can't stop talking about how much they love their pets and you know what? I, an embarrassing pet parent who can't stop talking about how much I love my cats, find that idea super relatable.

I so far really like Tom already! He's looking to have a character arc of going "what's that blue thing doing here?!" to "I've known Sonic for a day and a half but if anything were to happen to him…" and that is a character arc that I'm pretty much always on board for. But if he's also a very embarrassing pet parent who can't shut up about how much he loves his dog? That's great. That's very endearing and it's great.

And anyway if they don't actually show the scene wherein Sonic comes to the conclusion that the dog is a) Tom's best friend and b) something Tom can't shut up about, I will be disappoint.
