This was my entry for the “Sonic and the Black Knight” fan art contest. If you watch the game’s video montage of art from American and Canadian artists, mine is the first one shown.

The scene is from the beginning of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, when Knuckles appears for the first time. Super Sonic and Tails have just entered Angel Island. Knuckles pops out of nowhere and knocks Super Sonic down, making Sonic drop all his emeralds and revert back to normal. This is the instant between when Sonic gets knocked down, and when Knuckles picks up all the emeralds and runs off.
This is the first picture I ever did where I colored the lineart. I kind of stumbled into it by accident, but I really liked the results.
The background isn’t a literal interpretation of the background you see in the game during this scene, but I looked at screenshots and tried to make it recognizable as the Angel Island Zone.
