Gamma is quite mysterious, accoring to Mr. Robotnik and the Robotnik Inc. files. E-102 γ was 1 of the earliest robots programmed with an basic AI, as he knew how to walk and use his weapon, he knew nothing else. This caused him to wander off Robotnik Inc. and landed on a different planetoid. There he was discovered by Amy Rose who was taking care of some small birds at the time, due to his AI he started to copy Amy's actions of handeling the birds. According to Amy Rose, the birds seems to be quite fond of the robot and stayed with him, while Amy was a little concerned, she also had a feeling everything would be fine, as of right now, Gamma is still wandering the varies planets with his little bird friend.
