Defeated. That's what Tails felt after dealing with those nightmares for a solid month. Each person he cared for either being killed or tortured before him with no mercy shown whatsoever. And because of those constant nightmares that would sometimes replay, Tails decided to stay away and drink coffee constantly. Since then, Tails has been cooped up in his lab for four whole days, working on a device he recently thought of that could possibly help in his situation. Tails rewired the device and looked it over. This machine was supposed to stop his nightmares, well, THOSE nightmares of his friends and family. He glanced over at his blueprint and glared at it, it was legible at first, but now, it was hard to even read it now. Maybe it was all the coffee, maybe too much was making it hard for him to focus. Tails shook his head, what was he thinking? He probably should nap- No. If he were to try and sleep again, he'd have more nightmares and he didn't know what would happen. Tails held his head and looked down at the floor. He didn't wanna deal with those nightmares anymore. He didn't wanna hear their screams and pleas for help anymore. Tails just wanted this pain to be over with and would no longer have to suffer, nor his friends in his nightmares. "Tails?" Sonic questioned as he walked into the messy lab and looked about. Sonic then gasped when he saw Tails staring down at the floor with wide eyes, bags under his eyes, tears present as they fell and as he held his head in what seemed like pain. "Tails!" Sonic explained and zoomed over to his panicking friend and gently rubbed his back as to comfort him.
"I'M SORRY!" Tails yelled and curled in on himself as he flinched from Sonics touch. Sonic frowned at his friend and looked at all the empty coffee cups, "I heard you weren't sleeping well, but I never thought I'd see any of this." He explained and looked back at Tails, who was now staring at the ground in what seemed to be defeat with his hands dangling from his sides. "Hey, how about I take you to your room and you can catch up on some sl-""No!" Tails quickly yelled, shocking Sonic from his outburst. Sonic sighed and looked over at the blueprint, but became confused when he saw that it wasn't legible, "Tails, how can you even read that?" He questioned. Tails shrugged and stared at the floor, "I don't know." He whispered and rubbed his eyes. Sonic sighed and gently pulled Tails up, who didn't try to fight him and allowed himself to lean against Sonic. Sonic slowly guided Tails out of his lab and up the stairs. When Tails realized this, he gasped and tried to get away from Sonic, but his blue friend had a good grip on his arm, "Sorry buddy, but you badly need sleep." Sonic explained and dragged Tails upstairs. "No! I have work to do! I-I have to finish my machine!" Tails explained, but Sonic didn't care as he pushed Tails' bedroom door open and dragged his friend to his bed. Tails tried to run, but Sonic and him tucked tightly under his blankets within seconds, "This is for the best Tails. You need the rest." He explained, but Tails continued to thrash around with tears. "I-I don't wanna see it again!" He explained and tried to free himself. Sonic tilted his head, what did Tails mean? Was it because of nightmares? "Look, Tails, it's just nightmares. Hey, I'll even be right here for you." He said and sat on the edge of the bed. Tails stared up at Sonic then stared at the ceiling, his eyes becoming droopy, and within seconds, he fell asleep.
