These are just rumors circulating within a tight circle of friends. Therefore, no one can say with absolute certainty how much truth there is to it, but it seems everything began with yet another defeat of Eggman.
After thwarting the fat ass's evil plan, Amy rushed to hug her hero, but the latter had already vanished at supersonic speed. Tails, seeing Amy pining over the lack of affection from Sonic, went to comfort her, and she ended up hugging him and crying. Seeing her so broken, Tails offered to walk her back home, and of course, Amy accepted while tears continued to stream down her face.
What happened next… isn't very clear, but what is certain is that the following day, Tails and Amy avoided each other all day with a guilty look. And they kept going like this for several days.
In the days that followed, Tails was spotted showing up at Amy's house multiple times and at various hours of the day, sometimes staying until late at night.
Sometime later, Amy stopped showing her face around. Worried, Sonic went to check if she was alright, since after all, it had been quite a while since Amy had stopped chasing after him. Amy didn't open the door fully, just enough to show her face. So, once reassured that she was ok, Sonic left, but certainly with more questions than answers.
One day, Sonic found out that Amy had left all of a sudden in the dead of night, and that she had left him a letter. In the letter, Amy explained that she had moved elsewhere, having resigned herself to the idea of winning his heart after years of trying.
How Sonic felt about it… no one can say, but one thing was for sure. Many years later, Tails was spotted holding the hand of a young fox with green eyes that, strangely enough, resembled Amy's.
