A redesign of my oldest Sonic OC. Made this guy back in 2003 back when I was in the spriting community, back then he was known as Sanjuro/Sanjen and he was more or less a Sonic version of a character from an original story I was working on at the time.
When I got to 2010-ish when I was less focus on original story stuff and spriting, and more interested in drawing and developing Sonic world building/lore, I converted him fully into a Sonic fancharacter and gave him the new name, Silence the Hedgehog.
Since he's technically my "avatar" character, I don't really do a whole lot with him, as I don't have plans to use him for any of my Sonic Expanse content, but he's always been something pretty precious to me, so I was pretty stoked to finally bring him back with a fresh design.
Something I really wanted to do was take elements from his two latest designs that I liked and combine them. For the most part, the 2016 design had the most polish when it came to the general look I wanted though I did find he was a little bit over-designed, and the apparel from his 2010 design was an aesthetic I still found really appealing with a lot of the details lost with the newer design. Finally, I've brought back reference to the eye scar that he had in his old sprited design, which I've made in the form of an eye mark.
Overall I feel like I struck a pretty good balance of the different things I liked about the character in the past, I've also streamlined and simplified a few different aspects. Also you'll note his palette is a lot lighter than he ever was. For the most part I always had him as a little bit darker than Sonic's blue, but I felt like he could do with an interesting change if I made him lighter this time, and I quite like the look of the brighter palette, which helps accentuate the teal parts of the palette that I adapted from his 2016 design.
