This is a small tribute to the genesis Sonic era. I admit, Im a sucker for the classic style.
Couple things I want to note. First of all, Sonic look familiar? I made the lineart of this late last year but after losing interest in this picture for a while, I took half of what I had already done of Sonic and turned it into this [link] . With that said, a few things like the back light on him make more sense.
Secondly, I took inspiration from Super Mario Galaxy's stylish lighting (even though I've never played the game). I combined it with a more realistic type of shading to make an interesting effect. Also I knew I wanted to have a fantasy-like background but had no idea how to go about doing it but Im satisfied with the result.
