Just for fun, I wanted to see if I could find the oldest piece of Sonic fanart on the 'net. Depending on the criteria, I found two candidates.
If you limit it to pieces someone signed their name to, then this piece, posted to Yerf, dates to April 21, 1996 — even though the signature in-art makes it look it was drawn the prior year.
To get much older I'm going to have to find a complete USENET archive…
