The story for this role reversal of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Master System starts when Tails visits South Island and when he arrives, he finds a note waiting for him. It was from his friend Sonic, a blue hedgehog who is one of Tails' closest friends. The note from Sonic read, "Dear Tails, it seems Eggman is back and he's captured ALL OF THE ANIMALS ON THE WHOLE ISLAND! What's worse, he's even kidnapped me too! I'm being held captive in a place called Crystal Egg. Don't worry, little buddy, in order to rescue me, you need to collect the six Chaos Emeralds, which are somewhere on South Island. That darn Eggman made me write this. HE MADE ME FREAKIN' WRITE THIS DOWN ON THIS NOTE FOR YOU! Can—-Can you…believe it?! Pretty crazy when an evil genius forces you to write a note for someone to make them go help them. Anyway, I was forced to write this letter. Eggman says he is waiting for you, and he's created six robots in order to defeat you once and for all. I don't know what he has planned, but Tails, be careful, little buddy. Please. Sincerely, Sonic." There was no time to waste! The letter fluttered to the floor as Tails flew off to find the six Chaos Emeralds and save his friends.
