Mikey’s existence was mostly a experiment for Tails, he was naturally curious about how Shadow was created the way he was. After scavenging any blueprints he could from Shadow’s creation he went to work on testing all that he could, at first trying to fuse DNA together to create new life and each attempt usually resulted in nothing happening or the embryo suddenly failing to respond after a few weeks, so he did a big final test with only his DNA infused in this machine and when all seemed lost and response was quiet, he finally received a response- it was life. After incubating for a few months, Mikey was officially ‘born’ into the world and his experiment was a success. This successful experiment lead to Sonic and Shadow volunteering to help by providing their own DNA so they could possibly have a child of their own, this resulted in Tempo, who was the second success in many that would come.
Tails thought that Mikey would grow up to basically be a ‘mini-me’ of sorts, but since he wasn’t raised exactly like Tails was- Mikey grew up into a very very different person. Mikey is more like Sonic then Tails- he’s a ‘think first ask questions later’ kind of person, he jumps into danger and barely holds the same intelligence as Tails does.
Mikey ended up losing his leg about a year ago after a robot Team Alacrity was attack suddenly exploded, trapping his leg beneath a large piece of metal (this event also resulted in Tempo’s fatal injury which lead to his scar)- it was deemed to be fractured and unfixable so Mikey made the decision to amputee it. After a few months of psychical therapy, several hospital visits, and support from his family and friends Mikey was back to return to his old self and ready to jump into action asap! (Though his parents made sure to keep a very close eye on him)
Mikey is very into 90s memorabilia and video games, Sonic often gifts him old clothes he used to wear or old games he used to play as a kid. Mikey has a huge collection of cool older things in his room and he’s often seen playing vintage games with Tempo and Clover whenever they come to his house.
He might be reckless and dumb but whenever his mother Cosmo asks him to come sit with her in the garden or help her take care of the greenery he’ll stop whatever he’s doing to help her out. He’s kind of a momma’s boy (though he’ll never admit it)
